Hi, I'm trying to extend the C drive on my VM. I have already added 20 GB to the disk of my VM with the ESXi tool, but now the 20 GB unallocated space is not adjacent to my C drive, which leads to the Extend Volume option being grayed out. Is there any way to move the unallocated space right behind my C drive so that I can extend it without using third-party software? Thanks in advance!

Due to Windows limitations, you will see the Extend Volume option greyed out if you are trying to extend a partition with nonadjacent unallocated space via the built-in Disk Management. Thus, to move unallocated space right behind the C drive, you have to resort to professional help from a third-party disk and partition manager tool.
I recommend EaseUS Partition Master Professional for its friendly interface and a variety of features on disk and partition management. With this tool, you can move the unallocated space next to the C drive with a simple click.
Follow the steps below to extend your C drive:
Step 1. Open EaseUS Partition Master.
Step 2. In the "Partition Manager" tab, select the C drive and click on "Resize/Move."
Step 3. Then, you can directly extend the C drive with the unallocated space by dragging the dot. You can also drag the middle partitions to the back.
Step 4. Hit "OK" and "Execute xx Task(s)" to start the process.
